Star System
The IOC uses a Star Ratings System to indicate the potential level of difficulty of events.
Hiking and Cycling guide
All events are voluntarily organized by the club members themselves, none of whom are professional guides or leaders.
Participation is at your own risk and every participant is responsible for their own behavior and safety at all times. If you have any questions on the level of difficulty for an IOC event contact the organizer directly.
Please note: These are revised "Star Ratings", that incorporate both hiking and cycling together. If you have any suggestions for improving the ratings or if you require more detailed information, please contact the Activity Coordinator.
Ratings
One star | *
A basic event. Nothing too difficult nor long distance, no particular level of fitness required.
Two stars | **
An intermediate level event. Some difficulty or long distance. Beginners can join these events, but should prepare for a challenge.
Three stars | ***
Not suitable for beginners. These are physically challenging events, so a high level of fitness and/or ability are required.
Four stars | ****
Expert events ! Only suitable for highly-experienced members. These events will involve a certain amount of physical risk and insurance is essential.
Note : It is impossible to be completely consistent about events involving different types of activities with a simple star rating system. Members should always confirm with the event organizer or alternatively with the activities coordinator, that a certain event is suitable for their level of fitness and ability. "But it was only rated two stars" is no excuse !!
